INDONESIA TRIP UPDATE
On October 5th, Gary Burkett and myself began a long journey around the world to Bandung, Indonesia to minister with a longtime friend, Yoel Sukardi. He is a pastor, church planter, and missionary at heart who invited us to fellowship with his churches in the city as well as minister on the islands of Ambon, Buru, and Seram. Our adventure began by helping lead the weekly homeless ministry at a rented facility where many come to hear the gospel and get a good meal. We then assisted with a youth meeting where about 18 young people enjoyed games, fellowship, and then heard the word of God…taught by an American. The next day, we helped GSJA New Life Church celebrate their 45th anniversary with special music, a gospel message on ‘The Cost of Discipleship’ from Mark 8:34-38, and food and fellowship for all. Though the city of Bandung appears quite wealthy with the streets full of new cars and large buildings everywhere, they are spiritually poor with 91% of the population following Islam. They desperately need to hear the gospel message of Jesus.
The next leg of our journey led us to the Island of Ambon where we met Pastor Stemy (below), the friendliest and most outgoing person in all of Indonesia. We spent the day fellowshipping with area pastors and then set out for Buru Island where we first visited Emori Village where Pastor Roswell and his wife Uli minister to this animistic community. After giving gifts and treats to the dozens of children who came for the service, as well as singing songs and playing games, Pastor Ian (bottom), the humblest servant of God I have ever met, shared the word of the Lord to all in attendance. Pastor Roswell and Uli faithfully give all they have for this small little village church because the people have never heard of the one true God who loves them with an everlasting love.
Our next visit on the island of Buru was to the Boeroe (Buru) People in the Walafao Village, who were an animistic tribe until Pastor Aziz took the gospel of Jesus there about a year ago. There are now about 25 people meeting in the house church each Sunday, mostly women and children, but the village chief has given his approval to have a church building built in the village and even gave him the land to build it on, amen.
The next stop was a couple of churches that have been planted on the island and are in the process of building their first church buildings. It was such a joy to fellowship and sing praises to God with these dear brothers and sisters in Christ. We then had a meeting in a larger fellowship in a nearby village called Waenono where we sang praises to our God and listened to a sermon from Brother Gary. It was now time to fly back to Ambon where Brother Gary and I had the honor to share in two separate churches on Sunday morning, what a blessing it was to fellowship with our brothers and sister in the city of Honipopu.
We then set out for the island of Seram by ferry to visit local churches, a new village that is now open to the gospel, and visit a few long-time friends and supporters of Pastor Yoel. An amazing thing happened at the Maluku village when we met privately with the chief and his wife. They are basically animist so Brother Gary shared about the one true God who created nature, how we have all sinned against that one true God and need salvation from sin, and whoever turns from their sin and places their faith and trust in Jesus, the very son of the one true God will live forever with Him in a place called Heaven. The village chief and his wife chose to follow the one true God and Jesus Christ His only son, what a miracle indeed.
BOMBO, UGANDA UPDATE
Pastor Karim and Brenda are now seeking to reach 3 villages on the outskirts of Bombo called; Kitanda, Kiryamula, and Bujumba. They just recently had a 2-day crusade in the village of Kitanda where they preached the gospel and showed the ‘Jesus Film’ and 6 people came to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior, PTL. They are now sending two leaders of the Sambwe church to this village to begin a bible study at the home of one of these new believers…and soon, by God’s grace, there will be a new church in this village. ‘Godly Seed Nursery and Primary School’ has a strong foundation and is now ready for phase two, building the walls and first floor. We had a slight delay due to government procedures but the community is excited to have a school in which their children can attend for free. There are presently two schools in the area, one a very expensive private school and one that is a Muslim school, so this school will benefit the poor children of the village and teach them about Jesus’ love for them.
UKRAINE MISSION UPDATE
Thanks to your donations, Pastor Paul Dudka of Revival Baptist Church is still meeting the many needs of the refugees, women, children and even orphans who have lost their families, who are fleeing from the war-torn eastern part of the country. Since the Russians have destroyed many of the power plants of the country, Pastor Paul is without electricity for 6 to 8 hours per day and with winter coming that could be life threatening. We have sent funds to help him purchase a generator from Romania that will allow them to have electricity when the power is shut off each day.
NEW MINISTRY PARTNERS:
Thanks to your support, we are now joining with ‘LOAM’ (Love One Another Ministries) in Odisha, India. India has more unreached people groups than any other country in the world with well over 2,300. Odisha is known for its persecution against Christians but our brothers in Christ, Santosh and Pankaj Bardhan, are planting churches and meeting needs among the poorest of the poor. They have a home for orphaned children, a school for the children of their village, they provide vocational training for women as well as literacy and tutorial training, medical camps for many of the poor in the surrounding villages, and train church planters to reach those who are separated from the love of Christ. Please pray for LOAM and their many ministries in Odisha, India. (https://www.loamindia.org/)
Thanks to your donations, we have started supporting Harold and Justine Bradley in their work in Papua New Guinea. They will be serving as translation consultants with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Consultants serve as reviewers, teachers, and coaches who help to empower the translators to produce accurate, clear, and natural translations of God’s inspired words of truth. In November 2020, Harold and Justine Bradley joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in order to help serve in this essential role, and in December 2021, Harold graduated from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY with an Advanced M. Div Degree. He is now part of an accelerated training cohort that is preparing him to become a Bible translation consultant. This mentoring program will equip him with on the field observation, participation, and supervised consulting experience under the guidance of a seasoned translation consultant.
