June 2021 Newsletter
The Bunyaga Community Church of Bombo, Uganda sends greetings in Jesus’ name. The Great Commission is found in Matthew 28:19-20 and is well known to every follower of Jesus around the world: “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”. We all know this passage, but how do we practice and apply it? In Bombo, the believer (one who has been discipled) visits a neighboring village looking for a ‘person of peace,’ a person who gives their life to Jesus and then opens their home up for weekly fellowships. If a ‘person of peace’ is not found, then a ‘person of good will’ is sought, this is a person who is not a believer but may be seeking the Lord or just open to hearing about other beliefs. These people will begin inviting family, friends, and neighbors to the fellowship to hear the word of God…and enjoy some food and refreshments of course. Once these visitors come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior and the fellowship grows larger than the house can handle, the church is born. Once the church is born, land is purchased, and a new church building is constructed. Then, believers are discipled and trained to go out and repeat the process in another village. That is The Great Commission in action.
This is now happening in the village of Sambwe, as Badiru and Harriett are meeting every Thursday and Sunday, teaching the word of God at the house of Cheyunna, the ‘person of peace.’ Their fellowship is growing quickly as six young men recently gave their lives to Jesus and will be baptized in the coming weeks. Pastor Karim and one of his leaders at the Bunyaga Community Church, Charles, are now going to the village of Kawala every Monday, meeting at Latifa’s house, a villager who gave her life to Jesus and is now the ‘person of peace.’ This village is full of witchcraft and evil spirits but by God’s grace, many will soon be set free and come to know the Savior. Please pray that these fellowships will continue to grow, believers will be baptized, and another church will be born…to bring glory and honor to our God.
MINISTRY UPDATES:
Thanks to your donations, a new ministry van has been purchased to transport believers to church, carry supplies (projectors, PA system, chairs, and cases of bibles) to neighboring villages for outreach events, and to travel to Kampala for ministry training and conferences. The ‘boda boda’ (motorcycle) that was purchased last June for Pastor Karim to travel from village to village was kindly given to Badiru so that he could travel to Sambwe to start the new fellowship.
Just last week, 8 new believers were baptized into the fellowship of the Bunyaga Community Church. These new believers will now be discipled, by Pastor Karim and Brenda, to grow in their newfound faith and take the gospel to their family, friends, and neighbors.
Pastor Karim and Brenda have worked tirelessly during the pandemic and were in dire need of a time to get away, fellowship with other ministers, and learn some new leadership skills. With your support, we sent Pastor Karim, Brenda, Badiru, and Harriett to attend a four-day Leadership and Empowerment Conference in Kampala June 1st through 4th. It was a great time of learning, encouragement, and fellowship which was long overdue.
The ‘Community Sewing Training Centre’ is now training 4 women from the Bunyaga village. This is a high demand skill that will enable women to be able to get a good paying job to help support their families or even start their own business. The women are meeting every Monday and Friday for 3 hours and in just 4 months they will graduate and be ready for the workforce. Our goal is to help provide vocational training so that men and women in the villages will be able to become self-supportive, changing their lives and those of the community.
JUNE TRIP - Gary Burkett, Joe Nail, and I will be traveling to Bombo, Uganda June 20th through July 4th to take supplies, visit the new fellowships, encourage believers, as well as help lead a 2-day discipleship conference in Bombo as well as Tororo. We have over 60 pounds of supplies that we are taking: Children’s teaching material (Thanks to Kayla from Cornerstone Community Church), two video projectors to show the ‘Jesus Film’ in neighboring villages, printer ink cartridges for the printer we took in December 2019, books for Pastor Karim, a Nikon D3100 with all accessories such as zoom lenses, memory cards, and a tripod to record services, conferences, and especially testimonies of baptized believers, 40 Messenger audio bibles (Thanks to In-Touch Ministry), and 20 USB flash drives loaded with the ‘Jesus Film’ as well as many other video resources in Luganda.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for Pastor Karim and his leadership as they are taking the gospel of Jesus to the villages of Sambwe, Kawala, and, very soon, Nalwana. We pray that churches will soon be established in these villages and we will be able to purchase land and build a place of fellowship. We thank God for supplying the funds needed for the new van, the 4-day Leadership and Empowerment conference, and the supplies that we will be taking in just a few weeks.
Just a week ago, Pastor Karim and Brenda gave us quite a scare when their whole family got very sick with high fever…we wondered if could have been COVID? Turns out, it was just a bad bug, but it did give everyone quite a scare. Thanks be to Jesus, they are all doing well and their children, Blessed and Favored, will be going back to school June 7th for the first time since March 2019.
