April 2021 Newsletter
Pastor Karim and family send their greetings in Jesus’ name. What a busy two months it was for Pastor Karim and the Bunyaga Community Church. On February 13th, several leaders in the Bunyaga church attended minister/leadership training for two days to learn about their spiritual gifts and how to use them in ministry as well as the importance of leadership and sound doctrine in the local church. Ten members of the church enjoyed a time of fellowship, training, and prayer that God would use them in mighty ways to make His name great among the Nubians.
While Pastor Karim was reaching out and ministering in a new village called Kawala, he led two Muslims to Christ: Najib, who was healed of his deafness and poor eyesight, and Latifa. The outreach ministry in Sambwe will be turned over to Badiru and Harriett allowing Pastor Karim to work in Kawala which is known for its witchcraft and shrine worship…pray that there will be a church established in Kawala soon.
Thanks to your support, the Community Sewing Training Center (shipping container) was delivered and setup right next to the Bunyaga church. It will house the 7 new sewing machines as well as tables, chairs, and supplies for training village women for a life-long career in which they can support their family and share the love of Christ with the locals.
We celebrate with Badiru and Harriett as they were married on March 27th. Ugandan marriages are quite different than those in America in that the groom will have to give a dowry, money, cows, chickens, or anything of value, to show the family that he is truly committed to the bride. They will then have an ‘introduction’ celebration followed by the actual marriage ceremony two weeks later. Since Badiru was officially rejected from his village by the elders as well as his family, Pastor Karim and Brenda stood in as his family. He now has a new family who will pray for him, disciple him, and walk life with him as he and his new wife, Harriett, begin leading the Sambwe Church that will began meeting in April.
From March 30th to April 2nd, Bunyaga had a crusade inviting the entire village with food, special music, gospel preaching, and the ‘Jesus Film’ after dark. Six Muslims gave their lives to Jesus as Lord and Savior and many new relationships were established. April 3rd to 5th, Pastor Karim rented a football field in Sambwe to carry out a three day event for this new community where a church will soon be planted…six people also gave their lives to Jesus even though the village witch doctors ‘vowed to stop the crusade with their charms but God did not permit them.’ No power on earth can stop the mighty work of our God who seeks to save the lost and set those who are in spiritual bondage free.
MINISTRY NEED - Because the gospel is spreading so rapidly in Bunyaga, Sambwe, and Kawala, many needs arise such as more bibles, discipleship material, projectors to show the ‘Jesus Film,’ and more dependable transportation. We are praying that the Lord will supply a van that will be used to minister throughout Bombo to carry believers to these new churches, deliver supplies of bibles and food, and transport equipment to show the ‘Jesus Film’ in villages like Sambwe and Kawala.
JUNE TRIP - Gary Burkett, Joe Nail, and I will be traveling to Bombo, Uganda June 20th through July 4th to take supplies, visit the new fellowships, encourage believers, as well as help lead a discipleship conference. If you would like to write an encouraging card or note to Pastor Karim and his family or some of the other church leaders, please send them to me at the address below and we will hand deliver them. Our brothers and sisters in Christ in Bombo, Uganda need to know that we are praying for them and their ministry.
