Bombo Mission Update

Pastor Karim and family send their greetings in Jesus’ name. Though COVID is still causing havoc around the world, the Lord is moving mightily in Bombo, Uganda. Last month was a very difficult time for ministry due to their presidential elections which saw violence in many communities, military on the streets, and an internet shutdown for nearly a week. Things are somewhat back to normal now and Pastor Karim and Brenda are discipling new believers, reaching out to new villages, such as Sambwe and Kawala, and preparing to train the women in ‘stitching.’ Thanks to your donations, we have been able to purchase 7 sewing machines for the ‘stitching’ (sewing) ministry (1 Computerized Embroidery machine, 1 Leather industrial machine, 1 industrial overlocking machine, 1 knitting machine, and 3 standard sewing machines). Sister Harriett will be training 5 women for a total of 6 months how to stitch and run a small business so they will be able to support their families while sharing the Good News of Jesus in their village.

As you saw in our previous newsletter, we completed the construction of a building to use for a Sunday School children’s classroom, office space, and vocational training, yet did not account for 7 sewing machines with all necessary accessories. This building is far too small to carry out that type of training, so we are looking at purchasing a small steel building made from a shipping container for this purpose. This building would be used for vocational training and would be a much safer place to store the sewing machines as well as the church sound system, since it is made of steel and can be locked up each night. (see photo of a shipping container building below)

As you know, one of our goals at ‘unreached4k’ is to help the new believers become self-sufficient through vocational training such as stitching, renting a beauty shop, or starting a small business. A future project will be to purchase several ‘paver’ (brick) making machines, like the one pictured to the right, so that the men of the church will be able to earn a living, support their families, and share the gospel of Jesus on the streets at mile marker 21.

Brenda and Harriett completed 2 days of a 3-day children’s ministry training in Kampala but missed the third day because Harriett’s 4-month-old baby, who had been suffering from a bad cough, died. Pastor Karim immediately began to minister to the parents, Harriett and Henry, who are leaders in the Bunyaga Church. He also had the opportunity to minister to their other relatives who are traditionalists, worshipping idols and practicing tribal beliefs, by sharing the gospel of Jesus, praying with them, and paying for the funeral expenses. They will be traveling back to Kampala in two weeks to complete the last day of their training where they received many books and wall posters as well as ideas for leading a children’s ministry.
